And Day 12 of My 12 Days of Headwraps!
Happy National Headwrap Day! A little history on Headwraps; Without deep research (which means I asked Google π), I discovered that Headwraps originated in Sub-Saharan Africa in the early 1700s. They are basically worn to show social status, at religious events, and to protect the hair from the sun.
My sisters and friends mostly wear them because we either didnβt have time or just didnβt know what to do to our hair. So, some days itβs about style, some days itβs about, βGirl, my hair is a mess.β

This brings my Headwrap challenge to an end. I thought for sure I would miss a day. Most days I cut it close, but as long as I got a post in before 12 midnight, I made my mark.
Thank you all for following along, the likes and the comments.
Peace, Love, Blessings & Happy Headwrapping.

Day 11
This is one of my favorite scarves that was gifted to me by Francelise, a very nice friend of mine. Itβs a challis which is a soft, drapy (not sure if thatβs an actual word but β¦), fun fabric to work with as well as wear. Today, itβs my Headwrap. I wanted to try something different so I just wrapped it around, fluffed it up, and put one pin in it to hold it in place.

Day 10
Headwraps through the years. I had to go into the archives for these.

Thereβs a few days left and Iβm planning to share another special post for November 20.
A tip for hair grow – if youβve been struggling to grow your hair, if you keep your hair covered it eliminates the breakage that happens from the movement of loose hair. No breakage, more length. Oh, and lots of patience. Until tomorrow. . .

Day 9 ~ featuring Ms. Angela Brown
Todayβs post is a special one featuring Ms. Angela Brown. Iβve had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Angela Brown live back in 2012 at Skidmore College. Since then Iβve been a fan on her Facebook page. I happened to come across her post yesterday and saw her beautiful outfit and absolutely gorgeous Headwrap! So, with her permission, Day 8 of 12 Days of Headwraps features Ms. Brown in her awesome attire.

Day 8 and 4 more until the celebration of National Headwrap Day.
Head wrapping is a great way to stylishly protect your hair or to take care of a bad hair day.

Day 7
I love this one. Think Iβll try it on myself for day 8.

Day 6

Day 5

Day 4
Hereβs one of my favorites. I absolutely love the fabric. Unfortunately itβs not a knit, therefore it doesnβt have a stretch. Plus there is not enough fabric to fold on a bias, which would give it a little more give. So I basically just put it on and with the help of my braids and some straight pins, I made it work. #WrapInConfidence

Day 3
Woo! The day almost got away from me. I am going to keep it short today, I will mention that each day I look into the originality of Headwraps, I learn more and more. So along with tips and style, I will get into the history, as well as some designs Iβm personally drumming. But, in the meantime, enjoy another pic of kids in headwraps.
Thank again.

Day 2 ~ The earliest year, that I can find, of when National Headwrap Day officially started is 2014. The day is basically about empowering people to embrace their heritage, show their creativity and to connect with those who share a mutual love for Headwraps.

For the most part, in the Black culture, and particularly for the females, we know that a Headwrap, scarf, or durag, as a whole, is to protect our hair. We need to cover our fresh press-n-curl, fresh set of braids, hold those waves, and of course, lay down those edges. π
So, until day 3, if you are relaxing at home on this beautiful Sunday, keep that head wrapped. Your hair will be one less thing youβll have to worry about doing in the morning. π

Thank you.
